Parks and Recreation

PROTECTING AND IMPROVING OUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE

Another Standing Committee I was appointed was the Park and Rec committee. I was very excited to participate on this committee because I enjoy so many of the natural amenities that our community provides and wanted to continue to promote and protect those resources.

Throughout my time on the committee we've had some difficult decisions. Due to the pandemic, we chose to keep the pools closed during summer of 2020. It was a hard decision, but with so much unknown about the novel coronavirus, we decided to be more cautious in the interest of public safety. We did open pools the next season and expanded some private swim options at the same time.

Additionally, we worked on expanding playgrounds so we all could enjoy the outdoor recreation a bit more.

Finally, as a Committee, we worked to protect our environment by working with the DNR to understand how to remediate some areas of pollution that may endanger our citizens.

If re-elected, I would like to continue working to expand our recreation options for our citizens, that is one our communities more valuable assets. I would also like to continue on the Bike and Pedestrian Committee, a non-standing committee to make sure our paths and roadways are safe for all users, and the Dog Park Committee, so that we can continue to investigate new locations for more dog parks within our city.
